Westminster Students Complete Five-Week Work Placement with Morgan Sindall Property Services (MSPS)

This month, four students from Capital City College, Westminster successfully completed a five-week work placement with Morgan Sindall Property Services (MSPS), supported by employees from across the business.

This collaborative initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to Westminster City Council’s employment support strategy, creating meaningful opportunities for students to develop skills, build confidence, and explore careers within the built environment.

The placement also reinforces our drive to improve social mobility and employability under our Social Value pillars. By providing hands-on experience in a real working environment, we’re helping remove barriers to opportunity, widen access to careers in our sector and support young people take confident steps toward their future pathways.

Throughout the five weeks, the students took part in a wide range of activities, including:

  • Delivering a social value pitch and marketing project to MSPS colleagues
  • Completing health & safety and project management training
  • Shadowing our Commercial and Voids teams to see how live operational work is delivered
  • Connecting with employees across MSPS- from Apprentices and Engineers to HR and Social Value, gaining insight into real career pathways and the variety of roles available across the business

Aya, 17, Capital City College, Level 3 Business Student said: “My placement at MSPS was a valuable experience that gave me great insight into the construction industry. The team were supportive, welcoming, and always willing to explain different aspects of the job. I developed new skills and gained a better understanding of how large projects are managed from start to finish.”

Ray, 17, Capital City College, Level 3 Business Student added: “This was a great learning experience in an inspiring company, 100% recommend experience to others.”

Geoff Wright, Work Experience Officer, Capital City College said: “I wanted to send a huge thank you to the entire team at MSPS for generously hosting our business students for their recent work experience placement. We are incredibly grateful for your support and the invaluable time and expertise you shared with them.

The feedback from the students has been overwhelmingly positive. They really appreciated the opportunity to meet and chat with various colleagues across the business; these conversations provided fantastic insights into different career paths and roles within MSPS. This kind of practical insight and networking is truly transformative for their studies and career aspirations. It has significantly enhanced their understanding of our Business Studies curriculum and what a professional environment looks like.”

Polly Evans, Social Value Officer, Morgan Sindall Property Services said: “Supporting these students over the five weeks has been a real privilege. Their enthusiasm, creativity and willingness to get involved shone through in every session. It’s fantastic to see how much confidence they’ve gained and how their understanding of the industry has grown.”

This programme demonstrates the real impact of our social value work in helping young people build confidence, explore opportunities, and shape their future careers.
