MSPS support Barnet Homes Urban Gamez 2017
More than 95 children and young people plus their families packed into the Concourse at Grahame Park on the last Friday of the summer holidays for Barnet Homes’ popular annual sporting event, Urban Gamez 2017.
The event works to attract local people and encourage health and well-being through participation in sporting activities. Each year Morgan Sindall Property Services assist Barnet Homes in planning and coordinating the event which has seen the event grow in popularity year on year.
This year Urban Gamez was given an extra special ‘sprint’ start by local athlete, Kyle Langford, of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers. Kyle is a mid-distance runner who placed fourth in the 800m at the World Championships.
Apart from training for the Commonwealth Games coming up in March 2018, Kyle wants to spread the positive message about the importance of being active.
Kyle said: “I would definitely recommend kids to pursue a sport. It helps you mentally and physically. Once you get into the routine a sport like athletics, you start eating healthier and just want to do better all the time – it becomes addictive.”
Jason Hannell, Morgan Sindall’s Project Manager for Barnet said: “We are proud to support this worthwhile event, it’s a fun way to encourage young people to get active. I would also like to thank some of our suppliers who donated some fantastic prizes for the raffle.”
The Mayor of Barnet, Brian Salinger, handed out medals and prizes to the lucky winners and also bought his young grandson with him as his escort for the sporting occasion.
The mother of 5-year-old Reon, winner of his race and who was Barnet Homes’ Urban Gamez poster child this year, said: “I have so been looking forward to Urban Gamez this year and Reon loves it, he was so excited to win!”
The sporting event also featured plenty of outdoor activities for residents who weren’t competing – a climbing frame, giant cards, smoothie bike and boxing lesson provided by Middlesex University.
