MSPS launches the Green Award in partnership with the London Borough of Waltham Forest

Morgan Sindall Property Services (MSPS) is delighted to work in partnership with the London Borough of Waltham Forest, who last Friday, launched a new competition to the young people of Waltham Forest. The competition has two categories:

  • “Future Opportunity Prize” – launched by the Mayor of Waltham Forest.
  • “Green Award” – created by MSPS.

The Future Opportunity Prize invites the young residents to pitch ideas to reinvent the creative, leisure and local business scenes of Waltham Forest in a post Covid-19 world. The question they must address is “How can business survive and prosper in a cleaner and safer post covid-19 world?” The winning prize will be awarded £1000, plus monetary prizes for second place and highly commended entries.

The Green Award acknowledges submissions who show a keen understanding of the green economy and climate change. Recognising ideas to make Waltham Forest greener or environmentally sound. The winning entry will receive a Mac Book!

Helen Sheen, Head of CSR at MSPS, said “We are thrilled to offer this fantastic Green Award opportunity to the younger generation of Waltham Forest. We are really interested and keen to listen to the residents’ suggested ideas, what the communities would like to feature in their green spaces and the overall design, look and feel.

“It’s been known for some time that having access and exposure to green spaces can affect and have an impact on how people feel. It can help promote mental health by reducing stress and sadness, it helps provides a calm atmosphere and lifts moods making us feel better which is extremely important post Covid-19.

“Green spaces also have benefits for active users such as encouraging exercise, providing outside spaces for people to socialise or through children interacting with nature. Finally, it can help from an environmental perspective with potentially decreasing noise and air pollution.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the ideas generated plus we want to build on this fantastic initiative to create a Green Youth Forum. This will ensure that the community, and especially young people, have the opportunity to shape, discuss and evolve any suggested ideas going forward as part of our wider social value activity in the borough.”

The submission deadline for all applications is Friday 31 July 2020, and applicants will hear back from the London Borough of Waltham Forest by Friday 21 August 2020. The London Borough of Waltham Forest has a dedicated team to support with your submission. They will also be running a series of guidance sessions via Zoom – all are available to book via their website.
