MSPS CSR Team has passed the Level 3 Energy Awareness Award

In April Luke Culling and Sizi Sibanda, both Social Value Business Partners in the CSR team at Morgan Sindall Property Services (MSPS), were enrolled for the Level 3 Energy Awareness Award with the National Energy Action (NEA), the national charity seeking to end fuel poverty. The NEA works in partnership with many organisations to address the causes and treat the symptoms of fuel poverty.

MSPS supported them through the course, it was very intense as delegates only have access to the online course information for one month. The examination assessment was split into four parts over one day: two 90-minute written papers and two 30-minute practical role play exercises. Due to the pandemic the exam was sat virtually, with both having to film themselves so it could be observed by an NEA registered examiner.

Since passing the exam, Luke and Sizi can now provide advice to residents on lots of fuel related issues. For example, how to avoid condensation and taking remedial action where dampness exists, record energy consumption while working out costs and identifying potential energy efficiency improvements within the home. This advice really will support some of our most vulnerable residents, and with winter just around the corner timing could not have been better.

Helen Sheen, Head of CSR, comments on this brilliant result “A very well done to Luke and Sizi for all their hard work and what a fantastic achievement! This accredited qualification will allow the team to support the most vulnerable of our residents. By using data insight, we’ll be able to target our support to those communities which really need it, reducing fuel poverty and making tangible savings to residents. We will be holding energy advice sessions by phone, virtually and eventually face-to-face so we can reach as many residents as possible.”

Sizi Sibanda, Social Value Business Partner, said “I am very proud of Luke and I for passing the NEA Level 3 Award in Energy Awareness. This qualification equips us with the necessary knowledge to advise residents on their energy usage, cost implications and for giving residents energy efficiency advice. This support will especially help care leavers, those coming out of temporary accommodation and those in fuel poverty. I found the course very interesting and it has helped me understand renewable options and I’m now much more conscious of my energy consumption.”

Luke Culling, Social Value Business Partner, said “Having been away from education and training for a few years, the course was challenging and was by no means a tick box exercise. It has however, given me some very useful hints and tips that I will be implementing in my own home. For example, ventilation is key when looking at condensation and damp, and with a few little changes it can be reduced and eradicated. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with residents and hopefully help them save a few extra pounds each year!”
