Building Brighter Futures in Hammersmith and Fulham

From April to July, our social value team collaborated with the Construction Youth Trust and the Fulham Boys School for the Building Brighter Futures programme!

The aim of the programme is to help young people discover a range of property services, construction and built environment professions that are suited to their skills and interests.

The group of Year 9 students were given the brief of designing a wellbeing space for their school, a place for students and teachers to rest, relax and recharge.

Over the 4 months, students attended sessions from MSPS that introduced them to the breadth of career roles available in the industry, and a chance to ask them for guidance on how they should approach the project.

Employees from across MSPS volunteered to participate in these virtual sessions, helping students to consider budget, location and sourcing materials as part of their planning.

Once these sessions where complete, the students presented their plans back to school leadership team and our Social Value Business Partner for Hammersmith and Fulham, Kyla Fry.

The students got creative, including ideas such as wall quotes, benches and paintings to help create a calm space!

Naomi Ryan, Programme Manager, Construction Youth Trust added: “The Building Brighter Futures programme aims to inspire KS3 students to re-engage with their school learning and discover inspirational construction careers as they plan, budget and execute their own ‘mini-build’ to make a positive contribution to their school community. The opportunity to work alongside relatable industry professionals has an incredible impact on a young person’s perception of industry careers and their own aspirations. It is only through the generous support of industry partners, like Morgan Sindall Property Services that we are able to facilitate such immersive and impactful experiences for the young people we work with.”

Kyla Fry, Social Value Business Partner said: “The Building Brighter Futures programme is a fun, interesting way of getting young people within our Hammersmith and Fulham community to experience the different careers we can offer. It has been an enjoyable experience for both students and volunteers, from coming up with ideas to the building process, it has been a great way for our employees to engage with our community.”

The wellbeing space can be enjoyed by students and teachers for years to come leaving a legacy withing the community.
