MSPS is supporting Westminster’s #DontBeIdle campaign

Morgan Sindall Property Services (MSPS) is the latest repairs contractor to pledge its support to Westminster City Council’s #DontBeIdle campaign.

Westminster suffers from the worst air pollution in the country. With 9.9 million drivers in the capital and 370 million miles driven in Westminster each year, road transport contributes to more than half of the deadliest emissions.

The Council is working hard to help the borough breathe easy through the #DontBeIdle campaign. They’re taking action to cut engine idling from high pollution areas, as well as taking the pledge into resident’s homes by working with contractors to make a difference on the estates. Over the next few months MSPS will be piloting electric vans on some of the estates and will monitor their environmental impact including the reduction of carbon emissions.

Cllr Andrew Smith, Westminster City Council cabinet member for housing services, said “Our aim is to improve the quality of our homes, inside and out, for our residents. This is part of one of our biggest City for All aims – to create a greener, cleaner city for all. Air pollution affects us all and can have many negative effects. That’s why we’re determined to work in partnership with residents, contractors and visitors to clean up our air, not just for Westminster, but our capital city as a whole.”

Gary McFarlane, Westminster City Council Partnership Director at MSPS, said “We are proud to support Westminster’s City Council’s DontBeIdle campaign. We have over 400 standard vans as part of our commercial fleet so looking at ways to reduce their environmental impact seems like a really good place to start. We are also delivering tool box talks to encourage better driving habits amongst our workforce by turning off their engines where suitably possible to reduce carbon emissions.”
