MSPS hosts work experience placement for students at Waltham Forest College
Last month Morgan Sindall Property Services (MSPS) hosted a week’s work experience placement for six students from Waltham Forest College, Walthamstow, London.
MSPS work experience offer has traditionally been a standard five-day programme. However, as well as upskilling and introducing the trade roles to the students, we wanted to offer the opportunity of an added qualification.
On Monday to Thursday the students were partnered with an experienced MSPS operative, who offered them a hands-on learning experience in painting, decorating, electrics and plumbing.
However, on Friday they attended and gained a certificate for the ‘Safe2Torch’ course from The Advanced Technical, Engineering and Construction Centre in Leyton. MSPS is working in partnership with Langley Roofing Systems, who delivered this one-day programme as its part of their ‘Trailblazer Apprenticeship Course’.
Bianca Jade-Brown, Employability Coach at Waltham Forest College, said “Several groups of students were scheduled for a week’s work experience, however MSPS was the only local employer who offered a placement with a qualification opportunity.
“There was a last-minute addition to the group, MSPS was great and Natasha managed to accommodate our request with no fuss. All my students have all appreciated the opportunity, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
“Waltham Forest College is looking forward to more partnership work, so the next generation of operatives / engineers are well equipped with relevant work experience.”
Natasha Rochester, Social Value Coordinator at MSPS, said “All six students did their college proud. Their time keeping, eagerness to learn, listening skills and following instructions plus their work place behaviour was exceptional. Well done to all!”
