MSPS celebrates cohort 4 of our CityFutures programme

Five Westminster residents have successfully completed our CityFutures ‘Work to Learn’ programme.

Morgan Sindall Property Services (MSPS) is happy to introduce the 4th cohort of CityFutures trainees; they began their apprenticeship in June and completed the course mid-July. Each trainee joins for several different reasons, ranging from college leavers trying to access the industry, others struggling with unemployment and some individuals seeking a pathway to more reliable work.

The apprentices started their three-week classroom based training covering Health & Safety Construction Skills L1 qualification, Level 1 Certificate in Employability and the industry recognised Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card enabling access to site.

After this, the trainees progress to a three-week work placement within our supply chain. The apprentices were partnered with an experienced operative, who mentors them throughout their apprenticeship, offering them a hands-on learning experience in painting, decorating, and carpentry.

On successful completion of the programme, each trainee will receive an interview with the work placement employers.

Cllr Andrew Smith, Cabinet Member for Housing Services at Westminster City Council, said “I’m proud of the CityFutures programme, it shows our commitment to providing employment opportunities for residents living in Westminster. By offering a structured programme that includes a work placement with our contractors Morgan Sindall we are using our partnerships to help trainees learn new skills and enhance their job prospects in an ever-growing industry.”

Amy Ross, CSR Director at MSPS, said: “I’m very happy that this has been another successful cohort of our CityFutures trainees. The quality of the training programme, delivered in partnership with Geason Training, and progression route to apprenticeships provides a fantastic opportunity for the local residents.”

CityFutures is one of our social value initiatives that offers pre-employment programmes to Westminster residents. Through a structured work based training and up skilling, it bridges the gap between young people leaving school and accessing apprenticeships, and provides the support required to help unemployed residents back into work.
