Celebrating the Reopening of Queensway Pavilion in Cambridge

This month, the spirit of teamwork was on full display as we celebrated the reopening of the Queensway Pavilion community space in Cambridge. After nearly two years of planning and hard work, this much-loved space is back in action-ready to serve residents once again.
The Pavilion, a longstanding hub for the local community, was forced to close in early 2024 due to severe disrepair and rising maintenance costs. The closure was a difficult but necessary decision, particularly as it meant residents lost access to key amenities, including the valued laundry facility. However, with determination and a shared vision, we set out to transform the space into something even more valuable, a vibrant hub for the whole community.
Through our partnership with Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing, and with the support of Ian Williams Ltd, Pinnacle Group Limited, and Travis Perkins, we brought passion, expertise, and a commitment to social value that made this project possible. Our team proudly contributed a brand-new kitchen, ensuring the space is fully equipped for community events and coffee mornings. Our operatives played a key role in delivering the kitchen and island installation, working collaboratively across carpentry, plumbing, tiling and other trades. With a few adaptions along the way to accommodate electrics and water, they ensured a seamless and high-quality finish.
The reopening event was a joyful celebration, bringing together residents, colleagues, partners, and local stakeholders, including the NHS. As attendees shared their excitement about the opportunities the space will now offer, whether hosting local services, coffee mornings, meetings, or training sessions it became clear that the Pavilion is more than just a building. It is a place for connection, support, and growth.
Helen Sheen, Head of Social Value, Morgan Sindall Property Services said: “The reopening of Queensway Pavilion is a fantastic example of how collaboration can create lasting impact. By working together, we’ve not only restored a community space but also strengthened the sense of belonging for residents. This is what social value is all about.”
Steve Watson, Senior Partnership Manager, Morgan Sindall Property Services said: “This project has been a true demonstration of teamwork and commitment. Seeing the smiles on residents’ faces and hearing their hopes for the future makes all the hard work worthwhile. The Pavilion is now a welcoming space for the community once again, and we are proud to have played a part in its transformation.”
Kelly Thomas, Social Value and Fundraising Manager, Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing said: “At MTVH, we believe in creating spaces that brings residents and communities together. We are pleased that through our contractors’ social value commitments that include Morgan Sindall who contributed the kitchen, we have been able to reimage and transform the Queensway Pavilion into a space for residents to meet and forge greater connections. The pavilion will act as a hub that brings local services closer to our communities whether that from MTVH or local community partners including the NHS. Without the support and contribution of valued partners, like Morgan Sindall we have grown our aspiration for the space ensuring that it has lasting impact for many years to come.”
This project stands as a testament to the power of partnership, purpose, and social value. We believe that when we come together for a shared cause, we can achieve great things like this, which creates spaces that foster connection and enhance communities.
