Social Value Team Achieves Specialist Certifications in Fuel Debt Advice and Budget Coaching

Regional Partnerships Director Gary McFarlane and Social Value Officer, Polly Evans.
Our Social Value Team has strengthened its support for vulnerable households by achieving two nationally recognised qualifications: Fuel Debt Advice in the Community (Level 2) from National Energy Action (NEA) and Budget Coach Training from Community Money Advice (CMA). These certifications further enhance the team’s ability to provide informed, practical help to people facing financial hardship, fuel debt, and cost of living pressures.
The NEA Fuel Debt Advice in the Community qualification equips frontline workers with essential knowledge on the causes of fuel debt, tariff and payment options, common billing errors, consumer rights, and the support available for low income and vulnerable households. The course provides practical skills in reading meters, understanding fuel statements, navigating supplier processes, and identifying solutions for people at risk of fuel poverty.
Alongside this, team members also completed CMA’s Budget Coach Training, a programme designed to help practitioners support individuals struggling to manage their finances. The training covers how to build realistic budgets, maximise income, reduce expenditure, manage irregular costs, and deal with debt, while providing clients with tools to regain financial control.
Polly Evans, Social Value Officer, Morgan Sindall Property Services said: “Completing the Fuel Debt Advice qualification has been invaluable. I now feel much more confident helping households understand their energy bills, challenge billing errors, and access the support they’re entitled to. It’s empowering to be able to give practical advice that can quickly reduce financial stress.”
Arjun Ghosh Social Value Officer, Morgan Sindall Property Services reflected on the CMA Budget Coach Training: “The budgeting tools and techniques we learned are already making a difference in our conversations with residents. So many people we meet feel overwhelmed by irregular costs or mounting bills, and being able to guide them through clear, structured budgeting has been a game changer. This training has genuinely strengthened the support we can offer.”
A Stronger Offer for Communities
The added expertise strengthens the organisation’s commitment to supporting communities through the cost-of-living crisis.
